In which I do some shredding
Ok, Once again it was recommended that I work through The Artist's Way. I've tried this a couple of times before, and I can't get through the morning pages. Because I do not truly believe they are private. So I don't really put down the stuff I want to put down. I've tried doing non-private versions, and that fails because I can't get at the stuff that's really blocking me.
I don't really want a lot of my more petty thoughts, especially complaints about things other people do or say, on permanent record anywhere. Part of this is because I don't want their feelings hurt--a lot of these thoughts are ephemeral, a product of the moment, and don't really deserve the permanance that writing them down gives them. If I don't archive the thoughts, they pass eventually, and I can forget I had them. If, on the other hand, I write them down somewhere, someone else can read them, and then they are more real, and take on a life they never should have had in the first place.
So my new idea to get out the junk:
Shred it.
Write it. Then Shred it.
Take the lessons, the gems, the stuff I want to keep, and blog it here, and shred the other stuff, the stuff that shouldn't have permanance in my brain. So I'm going to try that. We'll see how long it lasts... Sustainability is not one of my fortes...
So today's lesson:
1. I don't trust anyone to respect my privacy.
2. I complain too much about work-related stuff.
3. I am currently focusing on not taking responsibility for things I am not responsible for.
I'm hoping that the shredding will have a vaguely catharctic effect as well. I really need to reduce the negativity in my life.
Writing wise, I didn't learn much about myself today. No great book ideas or identification of major writing blocks, or anything.
I'm still trying to work through that snowflake plot thing and meeting with my friend once a week. We met Friday, and it's just been one of those periods where nothing got done. We resolved to do better for the next time we meet.
I'm going to put the snowflake stuff I have done onto my new toy (A used iPaq handheld, courtesy of the father-in-law) and stash it in my purse. Let's see if that'll get me anywhere!
I also went and joined Snowflake Guy's newsletter. If that proves useful, I'll let you know.
